Barnes International product guide
Barnes International supplies verification and QC products for the issuing side — issuers, card manufacturers, personalisation bureaux and test laboratories. Its scope differs from terminal integration at EMV Level 3. This page sets out the role of each product and how to choose between them.
The product family at a glance

| CPT 3000v3CL | PVT for contact, contactless and dual interface | You want to verify contact, contactless and dual-interface cards |
| CPT 3000v3ML | PVT for mobile and SWP | You want to verify issuance data for mobile and SWP |
| CAT 3000v3 | PVT with script development | You want to write your own test scripts for bespoke and multi-application cards, in a Tcl development environment |
| Certification test modules | Pre-certification testing | You want to check cards with scheme-approved modules before submission |
| Barnes P3 | Data preparation and key management | You want issuance data preparation and key management in house, including instant issuance |
| Mag-Tester Revo | Magnetic stripe analysis | You want to analyse magnetic stripes to certification-level accuracy, in a test laboratory or in production QC |
| Tachograph card test tool | Tachograph card verification | You want issuance verification and compliance checks for EU tachograph cards from G1 to G2V2 |
How to choose
Verifying issuance data — the most common case
To confirm that the personalisation data on an issued card matches the issuer profile and the scheme specifications, CPT 3000v3 is the standard choice. Select CL for contactless and dual interface, or ML for mobile, according to the card's interface.
When you need your own scripts
For custom APDU sequences, Java Card applets and complex multi-application verification, choose CAT 3000v3, which adds a Tcl development environment to the CPT functionality.
Pre-certification before submission to the scheme
To check cards beforehand with modules of the same class each scheme uses in its qualification testing, use Certification test modules. This reduces rework after submission. Passing a pre-certification check does not mean formal certification will be passed.
Magnetic stripe, data preparation and tachograph
Magnetic signal quality analysis is covered by Mag-Tester Revo, data preparation and key management by Barnes P3, and verification of EU digital tachograph cards by Tachograph card test tool.
How this differs from terminal integration (EMV Level 3)
The Barnes products confirm conformance on the card side. They sit on a different axis from integration testing of terminals, kernels and acquirer hosts at EMV Level 3. For Level 3, see Level 3 layer. The Barnes certification test modules do include EMVCo Level 3 coverage, so they also appear as a related product on the Level 3 side.
