The ISO/IEC 10373-6:2025 (Edition 5) test plan — what changed
ISO/IEC 10373-6 defines test methods specific to the proximity cards and objects, proximity coupling devices (PCDs) and proximity extension devices described in ISO/IEC 14443. Significant changes were made between the 2020 edition and the 2025 edition (Edition 5).
Summary of the changes
- Amendment 2 (extensions for harmonisation) incorporated
- Withdrawal of Amendment 1 (dynamic power level management) confirmed
- Explicit RFU reception test methods added
- PICC transmission test methods revised
- Impedance matching networks simplified
- Various revisions to the conformance test plan
The purpose of this revision
Edition 5 exists to give the previous edition a technical review. In concrete terms, it incorporates Amendment 2 (extensions for harmonisation) and confirms the withdrawal of Amendment 1 (dynamic power level management).
Main changes
The main changes are: the addition of explicit RFU reception test methods, revision of the PICC transmission test methods, simplification of the impedance matching networks, and various revisions to the conformance test plan.
Scope of this paper
This paper summarises those changes from three angles: test equipment, PICC test cases (analogue and digital), and PCD test cases (analogue and digital).
A note on notation
Changes are cited in the form “ANNEX.SECTION – TITLE”. For example, “G.5.3 – Handling of PICC error detection” refers to Annex G, section G.5.3 of ISO/IEC 10373-6:2025.
